Established in 1992, the Soup Kitchen in Provincetown (SKIP) is an independent, non-profit, 501©3 corporation. SKIP’s mission is threefold: (1) to provide nutritious meals in a welcoming environment open to all; (2) to provide a sense of community to those experiencing isolation during the resort community’s long off-season; and (3) where possible, provide formal and informal referrals for a range of social services, including—but not limited to—housing and mental health. SKIP does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, age, national origin, disability or sexual orientation in any of its activities or operations and is not affiliated with any religion or political organization.

It provides a free, hot, multi-course, nourishing lunch to Outer Cape Cod residents, November through April, Monday through Friday. An additional takeout lunch for Saturday is distributed on Fridays. Lunch is served from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm on weekdays at the Provincetown United Methodist Church, 20 Shank Painter Road, Provincetown. Meals to-go, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are available.

Its other services include twice-monthly health monitoring by a registered nurse, supporting Crop Swap at the Provincetown Library, donating to local food pantries and giving referrals for an array of social services.

Since SKIP receives less than 10 percent of its income from government and other grants, it depends upon the generosity of individual and businesses. And since SKIP is a registered non-profit corporation, donations are generally fully deductible to the extent allowed by law. For more information on SKIP or to make a donation, please go to www.skipfood.org.
